Itinerary Highlights

SkySafari Classic in Tanzania starts at the Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge, with accommodation in one of the beautifully designed Plantation Houses nestled amongst the coffee bushes. Guests then join the SkySafari plane to transfer to Elewana Tarangire Treetops where elevated rooms built into the Baobab trees offer magical views of Tarangire National Park. The journey continues to Elewana The Manor at Ngorongoro, part of a huge coffee estate with Cape Dutch-style farm houses and day trips to the UNESCO World Heritage Ngorongoro Crater before concluding at either Elewana Serengeti Migration Camp or Elewana Serengeti Pioneer Camp, depending on which is nearer the famous annual migration at the time. SkySafari Tanzania departs every other day with a minimum of two confirmed guests. You’ll then fly to Zanzibar where you’ll spend your final four days at Zawadi, a luxury beachfront property boasting just nine oceanfront villas.

Daily Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival to Kilimanjaro & Transfer to Arusha

Welcome to East Africa! Upon arrival to Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and transferred a little more than onee hour to your lodging for the evening. Lying on the gently rolling foothills that cascade down from the ever-present Mount Meru is the bustling and vibrant town of Arusha. It is here on the outskirts of this town, hidden amongst one of Tanzania’s largest coffee plantations, that you will find Arusha Coffee Lodge, a perfect haven for relaxation either before or after any East African safari. An original coffee plantation homestead, the property’s spacious rooms are scattered throughout the beautiful grounds, with remnants of the plantation incorporated into the gardens.

This afternoon is yours to take advantage of the lodge’s delightful activities, perhaps enjoying a walk around the workings of the coffee plantation to see how the coffee is grown, harvested, dried, and produced into the aromatic coffee that we drink every day. Or, visit the Arusha Cultural Heritage Centre, where the past and present of the Tanzania's 120-plus tribes can be viewed in a single compound. The centre boasts of various carvings and gemstones, artifacts, clothing and books. Follow that up with a visit to the colorful and lively Maasai Market.

Overnight at Arusha Coffee Lodge (Dinner)

Days 2 - 3: Tarangire National Park

After breakfast in Arusha you’ll head to the nearby landing strip for the first private aircraft flight of your journey. Your safari adventure starts from the minute you touch down in this incredible 2850 Km2 National Park. Tarangire is home to over 3,000 elephants, the largest concentration in Tanzania, and one of the largest in East Africa. The landscape is varied and dramatically beautiful, delivering a diverse and fascinating ecosystem, as well as exceptional wildlife viewing all year round. During the dry season the Tarangire River becomes a sole source of water for wildlife, and the area becomes host to a migration of animals, including wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, and kudu - seeking out the lush green pastures. Where these creatures go predators generally follow, hence the region’s impressive population of tree-climbing lions. It’s also a birders paradise, with the swamps populated with over 550 bird varieties, the most breeding species in one habitat anywhere in the world.

Tarangire Treetops is a fabulously unique property located in a private 312 Km2 conservancy bordering the national park. The communal lounge and bar area overlook a watering hole (with 24 hour webcam for those keen to check out the local wildlife prior to arrival) whilst the elevated position of the treehouse suites, sitting amongst the branches of the baobab and marula trees, provide incredible views of the conservancy, and local inhabitants.

Whatever your interest, watching the sunset on the horizon from Sunset Hill will almost certainly be a highlight of your stay.

Days 4 - 5: Ngorongoro Crater

After your final breakfast at Tarangire Treetops, you will be taken to the airstrip to board your SkySafari aircraft as you fly to your next destination: the Ngorongoro Highlands.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site and often referred to as the eighth wonder of the world, The Ngorongoro crater is the largest intact caldera on earth. The rim of the crater is made up of lush, mountain forest and coffee plantations: in contrast, the 260 Km2 crater floor is covered in open grassy plains, acacia thickets, riverine forest, and lakes. Relatively small it may be, but the crater really does pack one heck of a punch, offering the highest density of wildlife in Africa, including the Big 5 and over 400 species of birds.

Arguably one of the most lavish properties on the safari circuit, The Manor at Ngorongoro is located within the Shangri-La Coffee estate, on the edge of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The Manor, with its old-world Afro-European architecture, offers luxurious accommodation in the most beautiful grounds. Fine dining and exquisite food are delivered with the best in African hospitality, with the swimming pool, spa, games room, cinema and stables offer a variety of ways of enjoying your time at the property. The Manor is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Tanzanian highlands, and is less than half an hour from The Ngorongoro Crater rim, and within close proximity to Lake Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara, a shallow lake in the Natron-Manyara-Balangida branch of the Great Rift Valley in Tanzania, was said by Ernest Hemingway to be the loveliest lake in all of Africa.

Days 6 - 7: Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, board your SkySafari aircraft for a flight to the famous Serengeti. Upon arrival, have lunch and get to know the property before heading out your first game drive within the park. The unique combination of both Serengeti Pioneer Camp in the south-central region of the park and the award-winning Serengeti Migration Camp located on Grumeti river in the north extends coverage to over 90% of the park and guarantees unfettered access to the Serengeti’s annual migration, and in turn exceptional game viewing all year round.

Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981, Tanzania’s oldest national park is without a doubt the jewel in Tanzania’s spectacular crown. The Serengeti is abundant with wildlife year-round, as well as playing host to one of nature’s greatest spectacles, the Great Migration. This incredible region, with its expansive grassy plains and never-ending horizon has attracted and inspired naturalists, filmmakers, writers, conservationists and tourists for generations, and continues to do so. A wildlife lovers dream, the Serengeti is home to the Big 5, cheetah, spotted hyena and giraffe as well as a host of plains game including antelope and gazelle.

Perched on a kopje and boasting some of the best views over the central Serengeti plains, Serengeti Pioneer Camp is a luxurious tented camp, offering a more traditional style glamping experience, reminiscent of yesteryear. Serengeti Migration Camp is situated on the bank of the Grumeti River in northern Serengeti and comprises of stilted tented suites with incredible views of the river and bush beyond, and offering fantastic game viewing and easy access to the spectacular wildebeest river crossings.
