Highlights of Torres del Paine
Mirador Cuernos
Translating to “the viewpoint of the horns”, Mirador Cuernos is a stunning viewpoint located in Chile’s Torres del Paine. The hike does not gain much elevation and instead remains flat for most of the journey, allowing it to cater to varying abilities. The viewpoint offers glorious views over the park’s greatest highlights including its mountains, glaciers and lakes.
Walking to Mirador Cuernos also offers a wonderful opportunity to do some wildlife spotting. You may even be able to catch a glimpse of the largest bird in South America: the Andean Condor. These huge creatures boast a wingspan larger than three meters.
Grey Glacier
The Grey Glacier is one of the most famous things to see in Patagonia. The immense ice sheet is thought to trace back over 18,000 years and lies as a remnant of an original glacier that once covered all of Southern Chile and Argentina.
The hike to the Grey Glacier follows an exceptionally scenic trail. Alternatively, you can opt to kayak along the ice field and gaze up at the magnificent formation from the lulling waters below.
Base de las Torres (Base of the Towers)
Base de las Torres, also known as Base of the Towers, is one of the best hiking trails in Torres del Paine. Slightly on the challenging side, this is one for active and adventurous travelers. The trail has become one of the most widely-recognized symbols of the park thanks to its stunning natural scenery and the glorious view from its peak. Upon reaching the summit, you can stand among the clouds, peering down at the winter wonderland scene of the snow-capped granite peaks against a crisp-blue sky below.
