Costa Rica is an explosion of natural beauty, being one of the most bio-diverse countries in the world. There is no better way being immersed in the captivating wonders of this country than by camping, in style (luxury!), by nature to witness the array of wildlife, sunsets and breath-taking vistas.  

Your adventure begins in Arenal Volcano National Park, a prime example of where biodiversity and adventure coexist, and famous for its perfect cone-shaped volcano, hot springs and myriad of hanging bridges amongst the dense rainforest. After days of exploring, spend your nights at Nayara Tented Camp, a group of luxury eco-friendly tents set high on the hill with spectacular views of the Arenal Volcano. The luxury air-conditioned tents feature a plunge pool fed with natural hot springs and outdoor showers, a perfect place for soaking as you get up close and personal with the abundant bird and wildlife in the area. Connecting tents are also available for families or friends seeking to share this experience together. 

Continue your journey west to the Pacific Coast to Papagayo Bay, located in the Guanacaste region. Where the lush rainforest meets the coast, this region offers plenty of land and water activities, from diving, surfing and fishing to ziplining and horseback riding. Spend your nights sleeping in luxurious handcrafted-tented suites hidden away on a private reserve with stunning ocean views. With only just seven suites, you are guaranteed a true wilderness retreat and privacy of a home in a relaxed setting. 

Hotels and lodges described in the itinerary are recommended by Craft Travel but there are numerous options in each destination and we will customize your itinerary based upon your preferences. With your feedback, we will similarly customize suggested activities, time spent in each location and trip extensions to additional destinations of interest nearby.

Detailed Itinerary

Arrive into San Jose's International airport and meet your driver, who will provide you with the travel vouchers for your services and review them with you in detail. You will be transferred to Arenal Volcano region for a 3 hour drive, one of the country’s true wonders. The park is home to the majority of Costa Rica’s 850 bird species and an array of exotic creatures such as capuchin monkeys, parrot snakes, jaguars and deer, as well as its diverse landscapes.

Your lodging for the next few days is at Nayara Tented Camp in Arenal Volcano. Enjoy the wonderful views from your own private plunge pool.

Overnight at Nayara Tented Camp (no meals included)

The Arenal Volcanic region offers many experiences while simultaneously enjoying wildlife and pristine nature. Enjoy the thrill of whitewater rafting or canyoning, or hike the volcano or explore the rainforest by strolling through hanging bridges. The best way to familiarize yourself with the ecosystem in this area is by experience the Sky Tram, Trek & Walk Tour, allowing you to observe the rainforest from different angles.

After your transfer from the hotel, the tour starts with the Sky Tram to reach the top of the Arenal reserve. Then begins a tour of adventure full of adrenaline above the treetops, which consists on a system of zip lines, that allows you to observe the rainforest and its landscape from a different perspective, safely in an innovative and different system.

Then, enjoy the Sky Trek; this activity includes 8 cross-sectional cables that together have a total length of 1.7 miles with distances from 100 to 2460 feet and with a maximum height of 660 feet, which exceeds the treetops providing a panoramic view of the Arenal volcano and lake.

One of Craft’s favorite experience is the canyoning tour. You will be transferred from your hotel to take an exciting 4x4 ride on a mountain road to the first ranch house. At this ranch house is where you will be briefed on the canyoning excursion, as well as safety measures, and begin putting on your gear. You will take a short trek on a beautiful rainforest trail to the first waterfall rappel where you will descend right into the canyon.

There are five different rappels that range in heights of 13 meters (25 ft ) to 55 meters (165 ft). The Monkey Drop Zip Line is approximately 25 meters (82 ft) long. After rappelling down the first waterfall you will climb up to the side of the canyon wall, 10 meters (20 ft ), to a short trail, followed by zip lining across the canyon and rappelling down from the cable 25 meters (82 ft) to the canyon floor again. This adventure continues as such through short trails and from waterfall to waterfall via the canyons.

After your adventure. you will head back to the ranch for a delicious Costa Rican style lunch with a precious view of the Arenal Volcano. Feel free to take a hot shower at the changing room.

The canyoning guides are trained in Wilderness First Aid and CPR as well as in the procedures used in rock climbing and rope course operation. The construction of our anchors and rappel lines meet the requirements as set by the Rock climbing industry and our group of engineers from Linea Vertical. Daily safety checks are performed on all systems and equipment. We are dedicated to providing our clients with an unforgettable adventure.

After breakfast, your driver will meet you at the hotel for your transfer to the Pacific coast, specifically to Papagayo Bay. The road transfer will be approximately 3 hours. Once you arrive to your stunning tent, absorb breath-taking vistas overlooking two untouched beaches and experience delicious and nutritious food prepared by the talented chef.

Overnight at Kasiiya Papagayo (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

Enjoy many of the included activities throughout your stay. Below is a list of included activities as well as additional ones that can be arranged at a supplemental cost:

• Snorkeling: Punta Gorda is one of the best snorkelling and dive areas around and it is right in front of the Beach Cabana. Come into the Adventure Room and gear up with a pair of goggles and fins and brace yourself for the underwater paradise you will encounter. Green sea turtles, Spotted Eagle ray, and a wide array of fish, you will not want to go back inland/

• Hiking: 123 acres of land is a lot of jungle to explore. Join our onsite guide on different walks throughout the property and enjoy the beauty and uniqueness inside of Kasiiya. Go from the top of the Sunset Lounge to Laguna or Portuguese Beach to the heart of the jungle and enjoy the sounds of wildlife that surround you.

• Kayaking: Take a kayaking trip to visit the property’s beaches starting from Laguna Beach to Portuguese Beach. Enjoy the view of the National Park Santa Rosa or the Tenorio Volcano as your gliding through the coastal rocks. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough and see a Spotted Eagle Ray jumping alongside.

• Paddle Boarding: Whether it be around to Portuguese Beach or to Punta Gorda, one of the best diving and snorkelling spots in the area, hit the water with our paddle boards and cruise alongside a variety of sea life.

• Wildlife: From beautiful birds like the Turquoise Mot-Mot to the howling of the Howler monkeys, wildlife surrounds you as soon as you enter the Kasiiya property. Get your trekking boots and sunscreen on and take a walk with our onsite guide throughout our jungle. Witness the magic of the flora and fauna that surrounds us every day.

• Beach: Everyday is a beach day at Kasiiya Papagayo. Whether you’re visiting Laguna Beach in front of the Beach Cabana or our almost virgin Portuguese Beach, you can definitely spend the whole day soaking up sun rays and cooling off in the clear ocean water. We have sun chairs available at Laguna beach and can also set up a picnic at Portuguese Beach. Maybe its time to go beach hoping inside Kasiiya.

• Yoga [Extra Cost]: Trade in your weights and treadmills for a session with our Movement Specialist, Bruno in our Jungle Gym. Looking over phones, computers and sitting in offices have removed us from our natural movements. Through our Movement Sessions you will reconnect with nature through our most important tool, our body. Practice the Monkey or Crab walk or challenge your body to the Lizard Crawl, but most importantly find that connection within to what surrounds you.

• Surfing [Extra Cost]: If surfing is on your to-do list when visiting Kasiiya, we can arrange a visit to Tamarindo, one of the best surf breaks around. Just a short 1 hour drive to and from, you can enjoy the waves and beach town around. Boat trips can also be arranged to visit Witch’s Rock and Ollies Point, time to live the Endless Summer.

• Diving [Extra Cost]: If you are looking for a little more adventure than gazing at marine life from the ocean top, we can arrange diving experiences for you through our Guest Service Specialist. Whether your PADI certified or not, you can enjoy a diving experience around the Papagayo Gulf!

• Ocean Discover Day [Extra Cost]: Depending on the time of the year, you can witness a sensational variety of marine life from manta rays to shark whales, or just have a picknick on a desert beach. 

• Fishing Trips [Extra Cost]: Teach a man how to fish? Maybe it’s time you enjoy your own catch of the day! We can arrange a fishing trip for half or a full day, and if the catch is good, our chef would be happy to prepare it for you!

• Wellness & Spa [Extra Cost]: Indulge in our unique Kasiiya Wellness treatments. Yamuna, our healer, caters to each guests needs and provides a treatment that heals both body and soul. With essential oils made specifically for Kasiiya and its dry and wet seasons, you will feel a revitalization of energy necessary to continue your journey through Kasiiya.

Your driver will meet you at the hotel lobby to being your 1 hour drive to Liberia International Airport. Transfers can also be arranged to San Jose International Airport. Enjoy your flight back home.
